Lone Elm Park

Image
Overall Ranking: 8/10 This park is located off of Lone Elm road. It is in the middle of nowhere it seems, but is a secret gem. This complex is a five dirt fields with grass outfield. These are some generic fields used for smaller tournaments, league games and practices throughout the week. The fields have pretty rocky infields and rough outfield. The plays of the infield can sometimes be tricky playing here due to the unpredictable hops. This is the same for the outfield. Over the years of practicing here it has improved and gotten better for playing. This field is always rechalked between each league game and tournament that is ran here. The warm up space here is a bit of an issue. There are two little areas between fields where you can warm up. Along with an open field of grass by the indoor facility that is a bit of walk from the fields. This is where many go to warm up just for the amount of space there. Now onto the indoor facility, many use this space for winter practices with t

Blue Valley Recreation Complex

Image
Overall Ranking: 9/10 The Blue Valley Rec complex is one that many in softball grow up playing at. These fields host tons of tournaments, but in recent years hasn't been as popular. This complex has two groups of four fields, along with then across the street two groups of four baseball fields. When playing tournaments at this complex it is great playing on the softball field with the appropriate distance fences. These are all dirt fields with very nice grass outfield. The fields are well kept up and majority of the time are chalked between each game. Sometimes the grounds crew will water the fields as well. With this maintenance in mind, the dirt is very thin and doesn't hold water very well. Multiple times playing at this complex games have been rained out due to this factor. The dugouts at this complex are very spacious and good for equipment to all fit in the dugout. Also plenty of space to sit down and not be crowded between innings of the game as well. There are many opt

East Mapleton Ball Fields

Image
Overall Ranking: 4/10 This park is also located in the Boulder area of Colorado. East Mapleton fields had many of the same features that the Stazio fields had. This mean't dirt infield with grass outfield and the mesh temporary fences as well. The infield although with this field was not taken care of very well at all. When going to slide it was a very hard surface and rocky. This was very difficult for the infields playing on this field with unpredictable hops. Many errors were made throughout games due to this factor. The outfield was the complete opposite. The grass was very smooth and even throughout. Ground balls coming to the outfield were very consistent. The warmup spaces were very small with these fields. Either behind the fields or in between if you could find space were the only options.  Every team made due for the space they had even if they couldn't do a usual warm up. A major issue with these fields was that the dugouts were very, very small. They were both shor

Stazio Fields

Image
Overall Ranking: 9.5/10 When playing in Boulder, Colorado; Stazio fields is just the park you are looking for. This park is spread out through two areas of four fields grouped together. The fields were very taken care of for being dirt. The grass was very well taken care of as well. The conditions of the fields made the games very enjoyable to play. These fields were finished with temporary fences once again in the outfield. These temporary fences were net like and very easy to rob home runs. There were several play throughout watching different games where outfielders had the ability to lean into the fence and steal home runs.  With these type of fences in the outfield also meant that their was warmup space between the real fence and also those temporary fences. There was also an area in between each field for teams to warm up and prepare for the game ahead. The space for viewing on one section was very cool. The fields were under ground allowing for the viewers to see all plays of t

Midwest City MAC

Image
Overall Ranking-9/10 Midwest City MAC is a complex that is overall configured very well. When walking into the park you can tell how clean and kept up it is by the community. When traveling to Oklahoma for a tournament you never know what kind of complex you will play at. This complex consisted of only three fields which was very unusual. The fields were fully turfed, but once again had deep fences and temporary fences were put up to make it playable. This allowed teams to warm up behind the fields in a big area for anything you may need to do. When it was time to play the field was very nice like any other turf complex we have played out, but the dugouts were very well spaced. They were not too big or too small were you are on top of your teammates. When play began I noticed that the stands for the fans were great for viewing the field. Allowing for them to see over the field with every play that was happening. The playing experience here was top notch.  For the spectators coming the

Mid-America Sports Complex

Image
Overall Ranking-9.5/10 Mid-America is another park that holds a very large tournament. This tournament has teams come from across the country to play against the best. With college coaches coming to Kansas to recruit from all over the country as well. Some of the biggest names in softball coming to watch softball. This year playing at these fields there was even a team from New Zealand. The conditions of this complex it is definitely top notch. These ten fields are fully turfed for slow pitch games in the last couple years. There are two groups of four fields then two fields that are pretty far from the entrance. The distance of these two fields is what limited my score for this complex. Due to the fields being deeper they did have temporary fences up and mats for the pitchers to pitch from the appropriate distance. This was actually beneficial for all teams coming to play as it allowed teams to warm up behind the field before the game to prepare for the games. Not only was this space

Legacy Park

Image
Overall Ranking-5/10 Legacy Park holds one of the biggest tournaments over memorial day. Many teams come to play at this park right after the school year ends. It is a pretty typical dirt complex with eight fields total. This park included hitting tunnels in the middle of the two groups of four fields. This allowed teams to warm up and hit off front toss if needed. This area was very small and had very limited space to warm up with. A lot of teams had conflicts when finding warm up space, especially if they wanted to use the four tunnels that were available. When looking at the field conditions it appeared to be very good. Once you stepped on the field that changed quite a bit. The infield was very hard and had very little dirt covering the surface. This allowed for bad hops to occur throughout games on the field. In the outfield there were a lot of holes in the grass in spots the players would stand. This didn't change the plays on the field too much. The factor that did was the t
